About the Artist
Katie M. Griffin is a South Carolina native, with a large creative family, who grew up surrounded by artists, designers and do-it-yourselfers. Her mother was a prolific artist and teacher. With resources and an encouraging family, creative expression was part of everyday life.
Katie’s first venture in commercial art was whimsical hand painted children’s furniture and nursery murals. With an eye for design, she also worked as an interior design consultant and seamstress creating custom draperies, pillows, slipcovers and small upholstered pieces.
Upon moving to Greenville, Katie began teaching at a small private school that encouraged creativity in its talented staff. The collaborative environment inspired a small group to rent studio space calling themselves The Artists at Falls Park. The time together reignited her passion for painting and she created McCaulley Griffin Home. Since then, she followed a childhood dream to become a vendor at the historic Charleston City Market and currently splits time between Greenville and “The Market” in Charleston.
She enjoys painting scenes from the South Carolina Lowcountry, specifically the Charleston area where she spent her summers and weekends visiting her grandmother with her dad. Katie’s inspiration comes from those happy places she visited. A few of her favorite subjects to paint are favorite restaurants and hangouts, the many church steeples that grace the Holy City, historic homes and window boxes, and of course, the beach and saltwater marshes.
Katie continues to expand her portfolio finding inspiration all around Greenville and the Upstate. Her work can be found in private homes, vacation homes, and offices, both nationally and internationally.
